Directions for Transit Time

Preventive Medicine
The transit time is the length of time required for the intestinal tract to process a meal. Charcoal or sesame seeds are used as a marker. The normal transit time is less than 30 hours; average American time is over 89 hours.
1. Chew up 8-10 charcoal tablets or take 1-2 tablespoons of sesame seed, swallowed whole, just before eating a meal.
2. Record the time of eating the meal.
3. Record the time of each subsequent bowel movement.
4. After the black color of the charcoal or free sesame seeds is no longer seen in the stool, one calculates the transit time from the eating of the meal to the time of the last BM that contained any black color or seed.

How To Speed Transit Time

Two military buddies. during their entrance medical exams were required along with their other soon to be trainees, to pass a transit time test-each swallowing rubber bands. They were not allowed to move on from their indoor confinement until this particular testing was completed. They knew this could take days. Having previous knowledge on transit time and how to spend it up, they put their knowledge to work. Each morning they drank hot water as soon as they awoke, which stimulates the system into action. They were out of their confinement in record time, leaving their comrades behind.
The Tummy Timer

If you follow a regular schedule, eating at the same time each day, your tummy sets a timer and cooperates by sending the needed digestive juices in timely fashion, ready to receive & digest the expected meal. If food is taken at unscheduled times of the day, the stomach is unprepared to do it’s appointed work. However, as soon as food is detected, digestive juices are excreted. But, because the volume of these digestive juices were not there to begin with, more food is eaten than normally. When the stomach has sent the required fluids for digestion it produces over-filling of the stomach organ and a feeling of heaviness, as if you have “eaten a brick.”

Aloe Vera

Nearly any affliction of the gastrointestinal tract from the esophagus to the anus can be properly treated by Aloe Vera gel or juice. Aloe Vera liquid has a slightly stimulatory effect on the colon, although the substance causing diarrhea has apparently been removed in some preparations. If one takes a large quantity of Aloe Vera liquid or gel there is a possibility of getting mild diarrhea. For this reason Aloe Vera is helpful for constipation. Simply take an ounce or two once or twice daily along with a meal. If one has peptic ulcers or gastritis, Aloe Vera liquid is one of the best treatments for it. It has a soothing and healing effect and can relieve pain, burning, and discomfort. For gas or acid formation, the use of Aloe Vera liquid can bring prompt relief. ![]()

Cabbage-The Amazing Ulcer Healer
![]() Cabbage and several green leafy vegetables contain a factor known as “anti-gizzard erosion factor,” later called vitamin U. It was observed that large amounts of fresh cabbage and lettuce protected stressed guinea pigs from ulcers. The factor was found in the juice of cabbage, thus eliminating the need to eat huge quantities of cabbage. Sixty-two ulcer patients were given at least a liter of cabbage juice daily. The average healing time for seven patients with duodenal ulcer was 10.4 days, compared to 37 days for patients with standard therapy. Six patients with gastric ulcer healed in only 7.3 days, while six patients receiving conventional therapy required 42 days. The cabbage must be freshly squeezed and not boiled, as boiling destroys the factor. A mixture of 75 percent cabbage juice and 25 percent tomato or celery juice was used with patients who objected to the flavor of the cabbage juice. Raw celery has been found to be high in the healing factor.

Natural Remedies for Tummy Aches
![]() For pain in the irritated stomach, place a heat source directly over the stomach, such as a heating pad, a hot water bottle, or a towel wrung from hot water. If you alternate the heat application with a 30-second ice-cold compress, its effectiveness is enhanced and prolonged.
Or one may take charcoal tablets or capsules, two to eight tablets to adsorb the toxic products of previous overload and indigestion. An old fashioned remedy used for children with upset stomachs is that of catnip tea. It works like a charm for a painful stomach. ![]()

How to Prevent Overeating
![]() When we have eaten to the point
that we cannot eat another bite we have overeaten. One of my professors used to
say "Eat what you should, not what you could." Satisfy only hunger,
not appetite. Achieve the lowest weight at which good strength and good
appearance can be maintained.
There are certain techniques which can be used to ensure that one does not get preoccupied with dining and accidentally overeat. Use the following steps to successfully prevent overeating. Dr. Agatha Thrash, MD. See steps in file below. ![]()
Fact: The emptying time of the stomach is one to four hours, depending on the food eaten. Carbohydrates empty most rapidly, protein next, and fats slowest at ten grams (approximately two teaspoons) per hour.

Hunger Cravings
![]() By Dr. Agatha Thrash There are several situations and foods which promote a desire for food. This is not real hunger, but a craving. Alterations in the lifestyle can prevent much of this unwanted sensation.
1. Milk, all dairy products 2. Sugar, refined grains 3. Meats, sometimes eggs 4. Salty foods 5. Stomach irritants 6. Preoccupation with food 7. Overeating in the past 8. Dehydration (urine should be kept pale) 9. Too little exercise 10. Inadequate work experience 11. Eating too fast 12. Caffeine and other alkaloids 13. No set time or place for meals 14. Singing Lowers Blood Pressure

A story just published in ScienceDaily, reports that a 76 year old women who was scheduled for a joint replacement surgical procedure had such elevated blood pressure, 240/120 in the pre-operative area, that the team was going to postpone the surgery. The woman asked to be allowed to sing, reporting that she frequently did so to calm herself down and to help with sleeping. The medical team encouraged her to do so, and after the singing of two religious songs, they checked her blood pressure again and found it had lowered to 180/90. After continuing to sing for 20 minutes the patients blood pressure remained lower and persisted for several hours after. The following morning, she was cleared for knee replacement surgery which was a success!

In a study released recently, it was indicated that folks in the US are losing sleep over their gadgets.
The Sleep Foundation found that all but 5% of the people surveyed either watch television, play video games, use smartphones or laptops in the hour before retiring to bed.
"This study indicates that light-emitting screens are in heavy use within the pivotal hour before sleep, said Dr. Charles Czeisler of Harvard Medical School.
"Invasion of such alerting technologies into the bedroom may contribute to the high proportion of respondents who reported that they routinely get less sleep than they need."
"Being bathed in the glow of monitors or handset screens suppresses the release of sleep-promoting hormone melatonin and enhances alertness, making it more difficult to sleep, according to Czeisler...."Over the last 50 years, we've seen how television viewing has grown to be a near constant before bed, and now we are seeing new information technologies such as laptops, cell phones, videogames and music devices rapidly gaining the same status," said Lauren Hale of Stony Brook University Medical Center."The higher use of these potentially more sleep-disruptive technologies among younger generations may have serious consequences for physical health, cognitive development and other measures of wellbeing."
